On 28 September 2026, Balanced Engineering & Construction (BEC) hosted the Singapore Civil Defence Force’s (SCDF) Responders Plus Programme for 37 colleagues from its Singapore office, Singapore project sites and Batam fabrication yard.
The hands-on session covered CPR, automated external defibrillator (AED) use, choking response, fire hazards and how to operate a fire extinguisher. Nine participants refreshed their previous CPR training, while the other 28 learned and practised CPR for the first time.

Led by SCDF trainer Mr Malik, the session combined demonstrations with practical exercises. His engaging approach encouraged colleagues to ask questions, volunteer for demonstrations and practise the techniques themselves.
The training gave more people across BEC an opportunity to learn how to recognise an emergency, call for help and respond appropriately while emergency services are on their way. These skills can be valuable at work, at home and in the wider community.
Participants also learned about SCDF’s myResponder app. People who register as Community First Responders can receive alerts to suspected cardiac arrests nearby and use the app to locate an AED. Volunteers who are available to respond can provide assistance before SCDF arrives.
BEC thanks Mr Malik and SCDF for delivering the programme, and all participants for their enthusiasm and willingness to learn.
