BEC commits to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

Balanced Engineering & Construction (BEC) has committed to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), marking a significant step forward in the company’s Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) journey and its approach to climate action.

The Science Based Targets initiative is a globally recognised framework that enables companies to set greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets in line with climate science and the ambition to limit global warming to 1.5°C.

Through this commitment, BEC will develop near-term emissions reduction targets and a long-term net-zero target, which will be submitted for validation in line with SBTi requirements. These targets will guide the company’s efforts to reduce emissions across its operations and contribute to the transition toward a lower-carbon economy.

Supporting the Transition to Sustainable Infrastructure

As an engineering and construction company delivering complex industrial infrastructure across Asia, BEC recognises the important role the sector plays in addressing climate change.

From energy infrastructure to industrial facilities, engineering decisions directly influence efficiency, emissions performance and long-term sustainability outcomes. By committing to the SBTi, BEC is strengthening its focus on responsible engineering and contributing to more sustainable infrastructure development.

Looking Ahead

As global industries transition toward lower-carbon solutions, BEC remains focused on delivering engineering and construction services that meet evolving sustainability expectations.

The SBTi commitment reflects BEC’s long-term approach to responsible growth, operational resilience and sustainable infrastructure development.

What is the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)?

The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is a global organisation that helps companies set greenhouse gas reduction targets aligned with climate science and international climate goals. https://sciencebasedtargets.org/

What does BEC’s SBTi commitment mean?

Balanced Engineering & Construction (BEC) has been formally recognised by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) as a committed company, following the successful submission and acceptance of its commitment. This means BEC has entered the SBTi process to develop science-based emissions reduction targets, including near-term targets and a long-term net-zero target. As part of this process, BEC will now develop and submit its targets for independent validation by the SBTi in line with their requirements. Importantly, this commitment has been reviewed and accepted by the SBTi, but the company’s emissions reduction targets have not yet been validated.

Why is SBTi important for engineering and construction companies?

Engineering and construction companies play a critical role in shaping infrastructure and energy systems. Science-based targets help guide emissions reductions and improve sustainability outcomes across projects and operations.
