Chimney Extension

Vietnam Glass Industries chimney extension
Case study

Chimney Extension, Vietnam

NSG Vietnam Glass Industries Ltd (VGI), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Nippon Sheet Glass, sought to enhance its glass manufacturing capabilities through a modernisation initiative.

The existing chimney’s height was insufficient to meet the demands of VGI’s upgraded production line, impacting operational efficiency and environmental compliance. VGI needed a prompt and efficient solution to address this issue.

Challenges

The project faced a stringent timeline to minimise disruption to ongoing operations. Furthermore, the extension needed to seamlessly integrate with the existing structure. Working on the old chimney structure posed challenges in terms of structural integrity and safety.

BEC's Approach

BEC undertook the design, supply, and services contract for the 20m chimney extension, employing a comprehensive approach. This involved insulation, additional access ladder and access gallery installation, heavy lifting, and miscellaneous works. The engineering team ensured that the extension met the immediate height requirement and integrated seamlessly with the old chimney.

The BEC Advantage

The project was executed successfully, with the chimney reaching its extended height of 105 m on time and without incident. The seamless integration of the extension accommodated the increased production demands, enhancing operational efficiency while meeting environmental standards, aligning with VGI’s commitment to sustainable manufacturing.

This case study underscores BEC’s capability to deliver innovative solutions with precision and efficiency, ensuring the enhancement of VGI’s production capabilities and adherence to environmental standards.
