Emergency Repair of Cladding

Case Study

Emergency Repair of Cladding AZ – Zour Power Plant

When high winds dislodged cladding from the Unit 2 flue liner at the Az-Zour Power Plant in Kuwait, BEC was immediately called to handle the emergency. The dislodged cladding posed a serious safety risk to personnel and equipment. BEC’s experienced team was deployed rapidly to secure and safely remove the cladding, ensuring the plant’s operations continued without significant downtime.

Project Challenges

Given the potential safety risks, the operation had to be completed swiftly to prevent further damage to the plant and avoid injury to personnel, creating significant pressure to meet tight deadlines.

Additionally, the rigging required careful planning and coordination due to the size and weight of the dislodged cladding, as well as its unstable position over the handrail. The team needed to ensure that rigging equipment was securely anchored to prevent the cladding from falling during the operation.

BEC's approach

BEC’s team swiftly implemented a precise and methodical solution:

  • Securing the Cladding: Using wire slings and chain blocks, the dislodged cladding was safely secured to a stable structure to prevent any accidental falls during the operation.
  • Cladding Relocation: Once secured, the team moved the cladding within the designated safety zone, ensuring no further risks to the plant or personnel.
  • Cutting and Storing the Cladding: The team used grinders to cut the cladding into smaller sections, which were then safely passed through the access hatch and stored at floor level below the roof.

By taking quick action and employing experienced engineers, BEC safely resolved the emergency without compromising plant operations.
