BEC is pleased to be undertaking a new specialist maintenance project for Singapore Refining Company, covering two flare structures and one chimney stack.
The project combines structural, mechanical, electrical and refractory activities, with much of the work taking place at height on difficult-to-access industrial structures. It is exactly the kind of technically varied assignment that draws on BEC’s specialist experience in the inspection, maintenance and repair of chimneys, stacks and flares.
A Varied Technical Scope
Works on the two flare structures will include inspecting and cleaning pilot gas components, checking guy-wire attachments and tension, and replacing thermocouples, ignition rods, steam nozzles and associated pipework.
On the chimney stack, BEC will undertake a range of inspection and maintenance activities, including renewal of ceramic-fibre packing, refractory repairs and protective coating works.
BEC’s planning will focus on:
- developing task-specific work and lifting plans;
- verifying access arrangements, anchor points and equipment requirements;
- coordinating responsibilities and interfaces between all parties;
- controlling work-at-height and dropped-object risks;
- establishing rescue and emergency arrangements; and
- confirming that personnel, materials and specialist equipment are ready before mobilisation.
Experience Where It Matters
Projects of this nature require an understanding of how tall industrial structures behave, how different work activities interact and what can go wrong if access, lifting or sequencing is not properly considered.
