Balanced Engineering & Construction (BEC) has successfully lifted and positioned the architectural “beak” onto the second of two 150-metre chimneys at Taichung Power Plant in Taiwan.
The operation was carried out within a highly constrained working area. Manoeuvring the large steel structure past surrounding plant and into its final position on the chimney required precise coordination between the crane crew, riggers and site team throughout the lift.
Planning and preparation
Before the lift began, the project team reviewed the full lifting sequence in detail, covering rigging, crane movements and final positioning. A trial lift was then carried out to verify the arrangements ahead of the main lift, allowing the team to confirm clearances and timing before committing to the full operation.
The main lift followed the same sequence, with the beak moved from ground level, past the surrounding structural steelwork, and into its final position high on the chimney.
A milestone for the project
With both chimneys at Taichung now fitted with their architectural beak feature, this lift completes a key stage in the project’s distinctive design programme.
